Carelessness and Ignorance = Injury or Death
Inspect Your Equipment. Don't wait until just before opening day to pull your treestand out of storage. Examine it thoroughly several weeks before the start of the hunting season.
  • Check the "soft" components (safety belt, stabalizer belt, seat, straps and camo covers) for wear and tear, making sure the stiching is intact.
  • Check the "metal" components (seat frame and foot platform) for any sides of stress or damage.
  • Check the climbing chains for corrosion, including the condition of the shrink tube covers, and replace them at least every three years.
  • Check the individual "piece" components (drop pins, stabilizer belts and attachment ropes) for usability to ensure you have all the pieces in place to maximize your safety.

ALWAYS WEAR A SAFETY BELT WHEN IN THE TREE. This means the entire time - while climbing, while in the treestand and while descending. Every step of the way. This point cannot be overemphasized. It is the single most important factor in preventing treestand accidents.
